Committees and taskforces dedicate their efforts to specific topics that affect students, create inclusive and understanding campuses, and shape policy to improve access and services.

These volunteers participate on committees and in workgroups to address ways to improve students’ experiences, educate stakeholders on DEIA and other foundational issues, and advocate for legislation that moves forward the mission of California’s community colleges.

Taskforces

Targeted taskforces and workgroups actively discuss and mobilize to shape process and policy affecting immediate and long-term student, college, and district needs.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Taskforce

Partners to integrate DEIA practices throughout California’s community colleges.

Trustee DEIA Implementation Workgroup

Chancellor Oakley’s June 2020 Call to Action after the murder of George Floyd accelerated the timeline for implementing 68 recommendations developed in the Vision for Success Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce 2020 Report. California Community College Trustees (CCCT) responded to meet this accelerated timeline by forming the Trustee DEIA implementation Workgroup, a team of forty volunteers made up of trustees, CC employees, students and community members, tackling ten integration plan items under trustee purview. We work in partnership with other major statewide community college associations, most particularly with the CEOCCC/REIE, offering professional development and mentoring to promote and support the trustee role in integrating DEIA practices throughout their local districts.

Racial Equity and Inclusive Excellence (REIE) Taskforce

In the Fall of 2020, the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges (CEOCCC) established the Racial Equity and Inclusive Excellence Taskforce (REIE) to bring CEOs from across the state to work on a Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) action plan that would serve as a blueprint to achieve a number of Tier 1 DEI activities identified by the Vision for Success Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce. The REIE Taskforce’s work would include administering a survey pertaining to EEO plans system wide in order to determine areas (colleges/districts) of focus, and collaborating with different constituent groups to ensure that cross functional collaboration is achieved and that work is aligned with a single purpose. The work will culminate in a final report that will be shared with the Chancellor’s Office.

CEO Funding Policies Taskforce

The CEO Funding Policies Taskforce examines budget issues affecting California community colleges. The taskforce also reviews legislation that has fiscal implications and makes advocacy recommendations.

Student Trustee Advisory Committee (STAC)

Convenes student trustees to discuss and engage on key legislative matters.

Background

STAC was formed in 2022 to connect the League with student trustees from across the state. In it’s inaugural year, 22 student trustees joined the committee, which was chaired by the student member of the statewide California Community College Trustees (CCCT) Board. Very quickly, STAC became an integral resource for the League to understand the needs and perspectives of student trustees. Students joined the League in Sacramento on various occasions, including participating in a lobby day in support of student access to public transportation, and testifying in front of the State Assembly in support of funding for student housing. Additionally, students gave League staff input on student-related legislation and shared ways to improve League resources for student trustees.
