Call for Advocacy on Final Budget Package

Contact State Legislators and Governor Newsom by June 20

With California’s fiscal year beginning on July 1, it’s down to the wire on negotiations for the 2025-26 Budget Act. While Governor Newsom will be promoting his May Revise, both Houses of the Legislature have now approved SB 101 (Wiener), containing the legislative blueprint for next year’s spending.

The Community College League of California asks you to contact your state legislators and Governor Newsom by June 20 to urge adoption of the Legislature’s spending plan on community colleges. In addition to offering the same 2.3 percent COLA as the May Revise on base appointments and select categoricals, the Legislature’s plan improves upon the May Revise in several significant ways, including:

  • Provides $100 million one-time funds in 2024-25 and $139.9 million ongoing funds in 2025-26 to support enrollment growth;
  • Rejects the retroactive nature of the rebenching from community colleges to Transitional Kindergarten by redirecting $259 million of prior and current year spending for community college purposes;
  • Provides $80 million one-time funds to support a student support block grant;
  • Provides $20 million one-time funds for emergency financial aid;
  • Reduces from $531.6 million to $377.5 million the May Revise’s proposed deferral of SCFF funding from 2025-26 to 2026-27;
  • Preserves up to $650 million in the special Proposition 98 rainy day fund.

Please contact your legislators and the Governor as soon as possible. This opportunity is extremely limited and we need everyone involved.
