Across our colleges, we continue to see racial opportunity gaps for Black, Indigenous, People of Color. In the most diverse state in the country, there is no excuse for inequity. It’s time for California Community Colleges leaders to take bold action to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, access and anti-racism in our system. Together, we can actively create inclusive and equitable learning environments to help all our students succeed in the classroom and life.
Trustee DEIA Implementation Workgroup
Chancellor Oakley’s June 2020 Call to Action after the murder of George Floyd accelerated the timeline for implementing 68 recommendations developed in the Vision for Success Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce 2020 Report. California Community College Trustees (CCCT) responded to meet this accelerated timeline by forming the Trustee DEIA implementation Workgroup, a team of 40 volunteers made up of trustees, community college employees, students and community members, tackling ten integration plan items under trustee purview. The group works k in partnership with other major statewide community college associations, most particularly with the CEOCCC/REIE, offering professional development and mentoring to promote and support the trustee role in integrating DEIA practices throughout their local districts.
