Brown Act Basics: Ensuring Transparency in Public Meetings – NT [BA] Carr

This training covers the essentials of the Brown Act, focusing on the transparency in public meetings. With increased communication via email and social media, it is crucial to prevent serial meetings and other legal violations. Participants will learn: the purpose and scope of the Brown Act, rules for public notice, agenda prep, and accessibility, key definitions, common compliance challenges and solutions, and best practices for maintaining transparency and avoiding violations.

Ethics and Governance – NT, CE [E] Compagno

This engaging and interactive workshop is designed specifically for community college trustees. We will address a wide range of current ehtics and governance issues, including conflicts of interest, gift regulations, the Public Records Act, and Form 700 filings. Emphasizing recent legal developments and practical implications, this session will equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively navigate and apply ethical principles.

We will review the board’s role in accreditation, the bilateral governance and partnership structure with the state, fiscal health standards, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility, the Excellence in trusteeship program, and what happens after you’ve been elected.

Roles and Responsibilities 2.0 – CE [G] Compagno

When you were a new trustee, you learned the basics about your position. Now, after a year or more-what were the surprises, and how much of what you were told to expect as a trustee was on point? This will be a facilitated interactive session! Come prepared to share your experiences as a trustee and offer suggestions on how to improve trustee education for future Board members. The Trusteeís Communication Guide will be introduced.
