League’s Annual Legislative Conference Kicks-Off Advocacy Season for California Community College Leaders

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Community College League of California (League) is pleased to announce California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis and state Attorney General Xavier Becerra as speakers at the Annual Legislative Conference, January 26-27, in Sacramento. "The League is honored to host two of California's most influential elected leaders who share our commitment to equity and quality public higher education,” said Larry Galizio, President & CEO of the Community College League of California.
 
The League's Annual Legislative Conference kicks-off the advocacy season for California Community College leaders by providing an opportunity for community college advocates to connect and learn about key policy issues and engage with members of the State Legislature. This year’s conference focuses on addressing students’ basic needs, understanding financial aid policies and procedures, supporting rural community colleges and advocacy strategies for greater investments in California Community Colleges.
  
Attendees will be joined by Senator Richard Roth, Chair of the Senate Budget Subcommittee #1 on Education Finance for a town hall meeting to discuss the Legislature’s higher education priorities and hear from community college chancellors, presidents, trustees, and advocates about their concerns regarding the implementation of current policies.
 
In addition, the conference will conclude with a capitol briefing on Monday, January 27 at 3:00 p.m. in the California State Capitol, Room 447 to address California Community College Employee Diversification. The briefing will include: Martha Garcia, Superintendent/President, Imperial Valley CCD; Daisy Gonzales, Deputy Chancellor, California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office; John Stanskas, President, Academic Senate for California Community Colleges; Luke Lara, Counselor, MiraCosta College; Ricky Shabazz, President, San Diego City College; Moises Hernandez, ASG President, Imperial Valley College; and Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, California Assembly District 56.
