Community College League of California Issues Joint Statement in Support of the 2019-2020 State Budget Proposal Agreed Upon by Conference Committee

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Community College League of California is pleased to see the amendments agreed upon by the conference committee for the 2019-2020 State Budget. The Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges (CEOCCC) Board President Marvin Martinez (East Los Angeles College) and the California Community College Trustees (CCCT) Board President Linda Wah (Pasadena Area CCD) issued the following statement in support of the state budget:

“Governor Newsom and the Senate and Assembly leadership have clearly demonstrated their recognition of the will of the voters by releasing Proposition 51 resources to support essential capital construction projects for California’s community colleges. This investment in the state’s largest public system of higher education will pay dividends for Californians seeking opportunity and economic and social mobility for decades to come.

The 2019-20 Budget agreement takes an important step towards building a financial aid system that recognizes the needs of California’s community college students. The investment in Competitive Cal Grants will help serve 15,000 additional students. Further, the budget enables necessary mental health services that many of our students seek as vital to their well-being and success.”

A full summary and analysis of the 2019-2020 State Budget proposal will be shared later this week.
