“Q and A for new CEOs”

New CEOs (even those who have been a president at another college) have many new things to learn when they take a new position. The League has identified common questions in the areas listed below and offered some answers. If you have more questions, send an email. It will be forwarded to chief executives with expertise related to your question.

CEO Leadership Institute–Vineyard Symposium
Napa Valley

A seminar and retreat for CEOs to explore leadership dynamics and issues, facilitated by experienced CEOs.

CEOs in Conversation

The “CEOs in Conversation” Seminar is designed to be particularly useful to those who are relatively new to their positions. Information on the seminar is e-mailed to new CEOs.  

Northern California CEO Conference

April 3–5, 2011—Yosemite Valley
Developed by a committee of Northern California CEOs; addresses current issues in California and promotes networking.

Southern California CEO Conference
April 20–22, 2011—Temecula Creek Resort
Developed by a committee of Southern California CEOs; addresses current issues in California and promotes networking.

CEOCCC Statewide Meetings
Developed by the League and CEOCCC, these meetings provide updates on current policy and legislative issues, and involve participants in planning and identifying upcoming issues. For more information contact Scott Lay, League President/CEO, at scottlay@ccleague.org.


National

American Association of Community Colleges
The AACC Presidents Academy sponsors two events per year for community college CEOs, the Summer Experience and the DC Experience.

AACC Annual Convention

Harvard Leadership Programs
Harvard’s Graduate School of Education sponsors a number of professional development institutes for presidents, including the Institute of Educational Management, Leading Transformation and Change, and Seminar for New Presidents.

American Council on Education
ACE offers a range of programs and activities that support current leaders and help to develop a diverse pool of capable emerging leaders.
